I am devoting this message to the Student Chapters and the 2005 Scholarship Award.
The St Louis Chapter Scholarship Award for 2005 is two $500 awards:
We are asking that a one page entry be sent to the Student Chapter Chair, Joe Bohnenkemper (bjoe934@aol.com) or to me (sharon.scoby@syllogisTeks.com).
I am encouraging Computer Science or MIS students to apply. If you seek a position In the IT industry this scholarship can be used for books or other beginning expenses for this school year. We are asking that the entries be in by September 15, 2005. The awards will be given on September 27, 2005 at our regular meeting at the Holiday Inn WestPort.
We are asking that you include in your entry a one page letter to the St Louis AITP Board of Directors:
- two letters of reference(from your school or your employer)
- an explanation of why you deserve the award
- your current GPA
- the name of the school in which you are enrolled
- Your major course of study (IT related)
- any awards or honors that you have achieved
- include what about yourself is deserving of recognition
I want to encourage student participation. We welcome those students studying IT and pursuing a career in an IT related field. IT is a great choice. I have enjoyed working in this industry for over 20 years and the members of the Board of Director have enjoyed being in this industry. I encourage you to read the articles submitted by members of the Board about the reasons why they are members of AITP. It usually parallels why they Are in IT careers. If you are a student that is not a member of an AITP Student Chapter, Please attend the AITP monthly dinner meetings and we will help to guide you to a Student chapter or mentor you as you continue to attend our meetings. You may find your First IT job by meeting the many employees of major companies in the St Louis area. You may find a scholarship to help with the costs of school this fall. We welcome all of you! Perhaps some none IT majors will be persuaded to select IT. All of you are welcome.
Our past President and National Board of Directors representative, Sue Morton, attended A national meeting of all the student chapters, NCAA, that provided a competition of IT Technology questions which was attended by over 800 students. Sue will be including an Article about her experiences and observations there. We are planning for next year and we want a large number of participants from the St Louis student chapters.
We have software door prizes and are looking forwarding to distributing them at our next meetings. The August meeting is at MicroSoft. See details inside this newsletter. We want to thank MicroSoft for sponsoring the August meeting. September and the rest of the year is at the Holiday Inn WestPort, where all of our meetings are held. There is a reduced price of admission for the August meeting. There is pizza and lasagna on the menu! We are charging only $15.00. We look forward to seeing you there.
