May 2005
I am so grateful to Lewis Reed, 6th Ward Alderman and Mike Wise, IT Director for the City of St. Louis. They were both awesome presenters at April's meeting and I have been getting great feedback from the guests and membership. The presentations were appreciated by all who were present.
Our May speaker is Patricia Smith , V.President of MasterCard. We are all very excited and looking forward to Pat's presentation. When I first heard Pat speak was about seven years ago at a Women In Technology meeting. She did an excellent job of describing how a transactions flows, using the MasterCard and how the company operates. MasterCard has a great IT department and for those of you who want know more about it, please plan to be here on May 19th. The meeting is early in the month because of the Memorial Day Holiday. June and July are vacation months for the St. Louis Chapter. Our next meeting will be in August. Please watch your email and this site for an announcement about August.
In June the AITP Region 5 meeting will be in Springfield, Illinois. It is Thursday, June 9 through Saturday, June 11. We are encouraging you to purchase a chance to win a laptop. There is an announcement in this newsletter directing you to the AITP web site, where they can be purchased for $20. Wouldn't it be great to win a laptop for the cost of a $20 raffle ticket? It is not required that you attend the meeting. The funds will support Region 5 meetings and activities. We thank you in advance for your support. If you have any questions about Region 5 and the meetings, please contact our Liason, Chris Leja. Her contact information is listed with the other Board members here in the newsletter. Chris has done an excellent job representing us in Region 5.
We are continuing to focus on our student members and we welcome all students who are in Computer Science or other related IT majors to come to our meetings to participate and meet our chapter members and guests. In the next newsletter I will explain how to apply for the St. Louis Chapter AITP Scholarship for 2005. Our 50/50 drawings at each meeting support our scholarship fund. If you attend a school where there is no active student Chapter, please come and we will assist you in the formation of a chapter.
We hope the moms who are reading our newsletter had a wonderful and Happy Mothers Day. I welcome any of you who receive our newsletter and have not come to one of our meetings this year to come on out on May 19th. The Holiday Inn does a wonderful job and we enjoy delicious meals each month. We have had some outstanding presentations already this year and will continue to provide subjects of interest to the IT community. Gene Dultz is our Meetings Chair and works with the Holiday Inn in WestPort to provide an excellent experience each month. Martha Ludewig is our Programs Chair and also does a great job in bringing good speakers with great presentations each month.
